She is a respected researcher within Kenya’s education ecosystem and internationally, with a strong record of scholarship and policy engagement.
She is the recipient of the Distinguished Service in Educational Reform in Sub-Saharan Africa Award from the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), recognizing her contributions to advancing education systems and reform across the region. Prof.Otieno has served in several national and international governance roles, including board membership with Childhood Education International, where she has contributed to development and finance committees.
A recognized leader in gender and education, Prof. Otieno has spearheaded research on Girls’ Agency in Kenya, promoting equitable participation and outcomes in education. She is an alumna of the Cherie Blair Foundation Programme on Women in Business and an Echidna Global Scholar at the Brookings Institution, USA.
Beyond academia, she is an active member of Lions Clubs International (Lions Club Masaku Pioneer), reflecting her commitment to community service and leadership.
