AFRICA JOURNAL OF COMPARATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL LAW

1. About the Journal

The Africa Journal of Comparative Constitutional Law (AJCCL) is published by JUTA Law of South Africa and hosted by the Kenya School of Law in Nairobi. It is a joint project of JUTA and the Kenya School of Law. JUTA is the oldest publishing house in South Africa and has developed a legacy of authoritative and high quality publications. The Kenya School of Law is the only institution in Kenya that trains lawyers for purposes of admission to the country’s Bar of Advocates.

2. Scope of the Journal

AJCCL welcomes original unpublished scholarly articles and reviews (book and case reviews) on constitutional law issues that focus on or are relevant to Africa and the developing world. Publications that focus on constitutional law issues in other regions are still considered for publication if they have comparative value to the theory and practice of constitutional law in Africa and the developing world. In essence, therefore, contributions in the Journal focus on constitutional law in the developing world through a comparative approach.

3. Yearly Issues

The Journal is published annually, in November.

4. Content

The Africa Journal of Comparative Constitutional Law comprises two sections. The first section comprises substantive Journal articles of between 8,000 and 16,000 words. The second section constitutes reviews of either cases or books. Case reviews focus on important decisions of both domestic and international courts.

5. Submission Guidelines

For a submission to be accepted, it must conform to the following general guidelines:

  • It should be original;
  • It should not have been published elsewhere;
  • It should not have been submitted elsewhere for publishing;
  • It should conform to the prescribed style guidelines;
  • Its length should be between 8,000 and 16,000 words for articles and up to 3,000 for book and case reviews (including footnotes);
  • It should be typed in Times New Roman, at 12 point (footnotes 10 point) font size and with 1.5 line spacing;
  • It should have an abstract of not more than 250 words;
  • It should include a short professional profile of the author(s);
  • It should be sent electronically by e-mail in Word format (MS Word) to ajccl@ksl.ac.ke

Articles should be in conformity with the citation style prescribed in the Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA). The 2006 edition of OSCOLA has citation guidelines for international instruments (such as treaties, resolutions adopted under the United Nations and decisions of the International Court of Justice) while the 2012 version is an updated guide for other authorities (such as books, book chapters and journals) and has general information on format and cross referencing. Both versions of OSCOLA can be accessed at: https://www.law.ox.ac.uk/research-subject-groups/publications/oscola
