THE KENYA SCHOOL OF LAW

JOB ADVERTISEMENT

The Kenya School of Law is a public legal education provider responsible for the provision of professional legal training as an agent of the Government. The core functions of the School are set out in Section 4 of the KSL Act Cap 16C.

In order to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the service delivery, the School wishes to recruit committed, dynamic and result oriented persons who will join the existing strong team of staff to help it realize its vision of being “A centre of excellence in professional legal training, research and consultancy”.

We are looking for independent, visionary and strategic thinkers who are customer oriented, and would effectively participate in initiating the desired organizational transformation. Specifically, we seek to recruit:

1. LECTURER, ADVOCATES TRAINING PROGRAMME (ATP) – KSL 6

REF: KSL/HR04/2025

POSITIONS: 1

Overall purpose of the job

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Advocates Training Programme, the incumbent will teach ATP courses and carry out research. The incumbent will also assist in the planning and coordination of specific programmes or projects within the department.

(a) Job Description

The specific duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail assisting in: –

  • (i) Conducting research;
  • (ii) Teaching or training in the advocates training programme;
  • (iii) Supervising students on pupilage;
  • (iv) Verifying student admission documents;
  • (v) Preparation of teaching manuals; and
  • (vi) Setting, moderating and marking examinations.

(b) Person Specifications

To qualify for this position, the applicant must have: –

  • (i) At least four (4) years’ post admission relevant work experience in public or private sector;
  • (ii) Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university;
  • (iii) Postgraduate Diploma in Law;
  • (iv) An advocate of the High Court of Kenya with current practicing certificate;
  • (v) Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing;
  • (vi) Proficiency in Computer Applications; and
  • (vii) Meet requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution.

Remuneration: The gross salary scale attached to this post is KSL 6 viz: Kshs. 139,589 – 183,744 per month.

2. LIBRARY ASSISTANT – KSL 8

REF: KSL/HR05/2025

POSITIONS: 1

Overall purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Principal Librarian, the incumbent will assist in implementation of library and information policies, procedures and processes.

(a) Job Description

The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail assisting in: –

  • (i) Undertaking Library and information services assignments in line with the approved Library strategies, policies and procedures for adequacy and effectiveness of the services offered;
  • (ii) Safeguarding the Library assets by establishing appropriate means of verifying their existence, ownership and valuation;
  • (iii) Stamping and pasting of newly acquired print Library materials;
  • (iv) Physical accessioning of print Library material;
  • (v) Organizing and managing periodicals/reference/reprographic services/archives/special collection/rare books section;
  • (vi) Offering circulation services to Library users;
  • (vii) Stock taking exercise; and
  • (viii) Organization and shelving of information resources to ensure easy retrieval.

(b) Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: –

  • (i) Diploma in Library and Information Science or Computer Science from a recognized Institution;
  • (ii) Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution; and
  • (iii) Proficiency in Computer Applications.

Remuneration: The gross salary scale attached to this post is KSL 8 viz: Kshs. 74,567 – 93,112 per month.
