General Information

1. What is the Certified Secretaries (CS) Course?

The CS course is a professional qualification designed for individuals seeking to become company secretaries, governance practitioners, compliance auditors, and policy consultants.

 

2. When does the Kenya School of Law (KSL) accept applications for the CS course?

KSL accepts intakes in January, May, and September to align with the KASNEB examination periods of April, August, and December.

 

3. How is the CS Course structured?

The course is divided into three levels:

  • Foundation Level
  • Intermediate Level
  • Advanced Level

Each level takes three months to complete.

 

4. How is the course delivered?

The course is virtual, with classes held:

  • Monday to Friday: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Saturdays: As per the timetable

 

5. What are the key benefits of the CS qualification?

Graduates will be able to:

  • Practice and promote good governance in public and private institutions
  • Implement legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements
  • Conduct and manage meetings professionally
  • Provide consultancy in corporate secretarial practices
  • Conduct governance and compliance audits

 

Eligibility & Exemptions

 

6. Who is eligible to apply for the CS Course?

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • KCSE with a minimum C+ (C plus) or its equivalent
  • KACE with two principal passes (with credits in English & Mathematics at KCE level)
  • KASNEB technician, diploma, or professional certificate
  • A degree from a recognized university
  • IGCSE: Grade C in six subjects, including English and Mathematics
  • Other qualifications approved by KASNEB

 

7. Are exemptions available for some applicants?

Yes. Lawyers, advocates, and degree holders may qualify for exemptions. Applicants can check the exemption schedule here.

 

Fees & Payment

 

8. How much does the CS Course cost?

The fee per unit is:

  • Foundation Level: KES 7,500 per unit
  • Intermediate Level: KES 8,000 per unit
  • Advanced Level: KES 9,000 per unit

 

9. Are there additional fees?

Yes. Students must also pay:

  • Application fee: KES 2,000 (one-time)
  • Library fee: KES 5,000 (one-time)
  • Examination fees (paid separately to KASNEB)

 

10. What is the fee payment schedule?

  • 75% of the total fee must be paid after admission but before registration
  • The remaining 25% must be paid within the first month of the semester

 

11. How can I make fee payments?

Payments should be deposited to:

  • Bank: Absa Bank PLC, Absa Plaza Branch, Nairobi

  • Send the deposit slip to: finance@ksl.ac.ke

12. How do I apply for the CS course?

Applicants must fill out the Google Form available here.

 

13. When will I receive my admission letter?

Upon successful registration, applicants will receive their admission letters and applicable fee structure via email.

Examinations & Certification

 

14. When do CS course exams take place?

Exams are conducted by KASNEB in April, August, and December each year.

 

15. Are examination fees included in the tuition fees?

No. Examination fees are paid separately to KASNEB.
