How do I apply for the Advocates Training Programme (ATP)?
Applications for the programme are done online through the school’s website.
Is the ATP conducted part-time or full-time?
This programme is offered on both a full-time and part-time basis. Part-time classes are conducted during weekday evenings and Saturday classes.
Is the ATP offered as an online training?
Yes, we offer both physical and online classes.
What are the admission requirements for the ATP for LL.B graduates who were admitted to the university AFTER 8th December, 2014?
Graduates of Kenyan Universities:
i) Attained a minimum of grade B (plain) in English Language or Kiswahili and a mean grade of C (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination KCSE) or its equivalent; or
ii) Attained a minimum of two (2) principals and one (1) subsidiary totalling to an aggregate of ten (10) points in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent; and
iii) Have passed in the mandatory 16 core subjects as stipulated in the Second Schedule of the Legal Education Act, 2012; and
iv) Hold or are eligible for conferment of an LL.B degree from a university recognized in Kenya.
Note: Applicants holding secondary school qualifications other than those offered by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) must seek equation from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
Graduates of Foreign Universities:
i) Attained a minimum of grade B (plain) in English Language or Kiswahili and a mean grade of C (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination KCSE) or its equivalent; or
ii) Attained a minimum of two (2) principals and one (1) subsidiary totalling to an aggregate of ten (10) points in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent; and
iii) Have passed in the mandatory 16 core subjects as stipulated in the Second Schedule to the Legal Education Act, 2012; and
iv) Hold or are eligible for conferment of a recognized LL.B degree from a foreign university; and
v) Obtain clearance from the Council of Legal Education (CLE)
vi) Must sit and pass the Pre-Bar Examination as provided under the Second Schedule to the Kenya School of Law Act, part 1 (b) (iii).

What are the admission requirements for the ATP for LL.B graduates who were admitted to the university BEFORE 8th December, 2014?
Applicants must have been admitted into the LL.B degree programme BEFORE 8TH DECEMBER, 2014 and must satisfy the following requirements:-
a) having passed the relevant examination of any recognized university in Kenya, he holds or has become eligible for the conferment of the Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) of that university;
b) having passed the relevant examinations of a university, university college or other institutions prescribed by the Council of Legal Education, he holds or has become eligible for the conferment of the Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) in the grant of that university, university college or other institution, and prior to enrolling at that university, university college or other institution:
(i) attained minimum entry requirements for admission to a university in Kenya; and
(ii) obtained minimum grade B (plain) in English Language and a mean grade of C (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination or its equivalent;
c) Holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from a recognized university and attained a minimum grade of C (plus) in English and a minimum aggregate grade of C (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination, holds a higher qualification e.g. “A” levels, “IB”, relevant “Diploma”, other “undergraduate degree” or has attained a higher degree in Law after the
undergraduate studies in the Bachelor of Laws programme; or
d) a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from recognized university and attained a minimum grade of C (minus) in English and a minimum of an aggregate grade of C (minus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination sits and passes the Pre-Bar Examination set by the Kenya School of Law as a pre-condition for admission.

How long is the training?
The Advocates Training Programme is conducted over 18 months. The first 12 months are conducted through training by the School, followed by a 6-month pupilage. Teaching of the ATP is conducted on a clinical basis.
When do applications for the programmme open?
Typically, applications for the ATP open in November and classes start in January. The exact application dates are placed on the School’s website and across the School’s various social media channels.
Is there financial aid available for ATP students?
Yes. The Kenya School of Law Legal Education Fund is available through HELB, subject to availability and eligibility. Updates on availability are shared yearly on our website and through our social media channels.
